It’s nice to be zombiefied for a little while in the middle of finals! I’m taking the day off, because otherwise I would lose my mind. This is my last finals week ever, which is surreal. Are any of my readers also going through finals hell?
I stole this post format idea from Danielle Hampton, because it works so perfectly for all-around updates like the one I’m about to throw at yinz (Pittsburghese).
Watching: Steve and I have been going hard on RuPaul’s Drag Race. I keep trying to convince him that I would make an awesome drag queen, but he insists that you have to have male genitalia. (Psh.) I’ve been watchingThe Big Bang Theory alone a lot, because Dr. Sheldon Cooper is my raison d’etre. I wish I could say that I’ve seen something erotic lately, but that’s not the case. Maybe I’ll try to find some of Tristan Taormino’s stuff later…
Listening to: Pittsburgh’s best radio station, when you catch it at a good time slot, is definitely WYEP (public radio). They played “Where Soul Meets Body” on my way home the other day and I couldn’t believe that it had been almost two years since I heard Death Cab perform that live. I don’t know that I’ll ever find albums that mean as much to me as Death Cab’s Plans or Tegan & Sara’s So Jealous, though their album The Con is a close third. It seems I’m caught in a musical state of arrested development.
Planning: Christmas! I just bought Steve’s gifts this afternoon, and I’m almost caught up with everyone on my list. I have 2 secret santa gifts to grab and that should be it. Besides gifts for a certain little someone. Steve and I are planning on driving to St. Louis with his sister and her fiancee on the day after Christmas, and staying there until just after New Years. This will be my first time meeting his parents, so I’m a little nervous!
Thinking about: All of the reviews I want to complete for Marvelous Darling! I just received a new product to review today (thanks Lovehoney!) and while Steve is apprehensive, I can’t wait. And guys, I found dildo love with the Tantus Splish. Finally, I’d also like to review my Lelo Luna Mini kegel balls. So many sex products, so little time, and only one vagina.
Looking forward to: CatalystCon! CatalystCon is a convention for sex educators, bloggers, and aspiring sex-related professionals. Their speaker list for the March 2013 conference in Washington, DC is amazing and I cannot wait to get my butt there! I’m volunteering, which is going to be awesome, and I’m honored to be working with SheVibe (thanks, Sandra! You rock!) as my corporate sponsor! I even get to attend the unparalleled Tristan Taormino’s pre-con talk about becoming a sex ed professional! Are you sick of my exclamation points yet!? TOO BAD!
Reading: …lots of things about prisons, the Soviet Gulag system, and on a happier note, other lovely blogs. I have papers due very soon, so I’m trying to read, absorb, synthesize, and properly regurgitate and analyze. That sounds disgusting.
Making me happy:
This thing. (Well, the other thing in the photo too. And the N64.) The above wuppy is known as Daphne, and is a 8-10 year old bichon/maltese/Ewok mix. I adopted her from a local no-kill shelter during their holiday rehoming special. Steve had already agreed to be “puppy daddy,” and it’s pretty nice to have shared responsibility of a creature who is really pretty easy to live with. She’s housebroken and we’re working rather successfully on crate training. She sleeps all night at the foot of our bed; sometimes, she snores. She’s met my parents’ dog, Dmitri, and they’re already best friends.
What have you been up to lately?
I know it’s been ridiculously long since last I posted, and I even neglected Lazy Sunday (because ironically, it wasn’t lazy at all). I’m a failure. Except I’m not a failure because I’ve been working at my new job for around 25 hours a week! It’s pretty fantastic, and now I can actually tell you about it!
…I just started at Adam & Eve Pittsburgh! If you’ve never heard of Adam & Eve, it started in the 70’s as a mail delivery service for condoms, and grew until it became a well-known and trusted brand for toys, contraception, and even lingerie. The Pittsburgh store is pretty heavily lingerie based, and caters particularly to women and couples. In the two weeks since I started, I have to say, it’s been a great experience. I’m loving the staff, I have fun at work, and I really feel like I’m helping people in an under-served niche. If you’re in Pittsburgh but you’ve never been to a “sex toy store” or you’ve been to Adult Mart and found it just a little too skeevy for your tastes, I think you would like Adam & Eve. Full disclosure: The store did not pay me to write this, and I do not receive any special perks for it. I legitimately am really enjoying my new job!
Ready for some Instagrams??
I totally forget what this is called, but it’s delicious. // I hung out with lingerie models at my new job. Nbd.
Fresh mozz and roasted tomatoes on bruschetta. // Me, in the car, being washed out.
My new 1970’s era typewriter. It needs some TLC. (No Scrubs) // My faaaavorite flowers are yellow roses. So pretty.
I finally learned how to use a framing app for my Instagrams!
Whew! Be back soon with more, including an actual real Lazy Sunday post!
Why did it never occur to me before to address my posts with “Darlings?” What the balls is wrong with me?
I took a week and a half long hiatus from blogging, not because I wanted to or because I got bored, but because life has kicked my ass this semester. I am so, so glad that I started Marvelous Darling when I did, and that I threw myself into it with typical Scorpio gusto, but at this point in my life my schooling has to come first. Luckily, I am one week away from being done!
First thing’s first: I know you’re all dying to see pictures of the dog I had for a couple of days. So, below the cut, you’ll see approximately 8 million pictures, and the story of Cheese Queen in its entirety.
Also below the cut: Instagrams of my Daily Life, and some very special Links of the Week! So please, follow the cut!
My hell weekend is finally over (on Tuesday night! sheesh!) and I am so excited for a relaxing night of Instagrams with you. I really wanted to share my blog planner, but then I lost it for a week, and only found it again tonight after the sun had set and the lighting got too bad for pictures. Le sigh. So, that post will be coming in the very near future. If you’re a terrible organizer like me and need a notebook a little different from most people’s to get things done, I hope my DIY fix will help you out!
In the mean time, to the photos! I’m trying out a new layout this time, so stick with me, por favor!
1. Most delicious turtle sundae at Klavon’s! // 2. Look, a planet! I don’t know which one, but it’s a planet!
3. New friend Mike has giant hands. // 4. Any fellow Chivers?? That’s a mislabeled states shirt! (It’s actually of Kentucky. I wouldn’t have noticed.)
5. Hello, bright and sunshiny day! // 6. I go to Pitt, and that’s the Cathedral of Learning. It’s like Hogwarts inside! The first floor is, anyway. Pretty spiffy.
7. Reading Salt outside this Saturday! // 8. Told you I had a rough St. Patrick’s Day! Tumbled over my futon. Thanks, Jameson.
9. Your weekly dose of Dmitri! // 10. I heard this pathetic crying outside my window yesterday, and ended up “having” a cat for an hour and a half. He was so precious.
My, my. I sure do use Nashville a lot. Is that the most overused Instagram filter, or is it just me? I just love it. Can’t get enough. Bonus? It totally evens out my skin tone – for a girl that likes to wear tinted moisturizer instead of real foundation, that’s always welcome!
If you want to find me on Instagram, just search for “nicetobelieve”! I would love it if you added me, as I’d love to follow my blog readers! You’re all quite lovely, I imagine!
Safe & sexy,
Hi pretty things and handsome gents! …on the off chance any handsome gents read this blog. Oh, please, let there be handsome gents under the age of 30 who don’t think this shit cray! Ahhem.
I come bearing Instagrams of My Daily Life, even more than usual. I hope this isn’t boring for anyone else – personally, I love looking through people’s daily life photos, even moreso than the pretty inspiration photos on a lot of blogs. They’re just so real, it makes me feel like a blogger’s life is attainable.
When it’s been a long week and I just need to relax, I usually take some time to hibernate with a movie (Heathers!), some junk food, and a glass of wine. Note the fact that I don’t own wineglasses. This is because I break glassware like it’s my job.
The cafe tends to get slow around 3-4pm, and that’s when I like to take silly little pictures. It’s a cute place!
I got to go home last weekend for some serious R&R (my mom even rubbed all the kinks out of my back!) and of course, no trip home would be complete without a picture of my fuffywups, Dmitri. He’s a rescued poodle/bichon mix, and sometimes we wonder if he’s half cat.
Also while home, I got lunch with one of my oldest friends, Alicia. Neither of us can remember when we met, but it’s been a nonstop good time ever since! We lived together last year, and I miss seeing her everyday. We had delicious Mexican food and some really fantastic(ally strong) cocktails! Hers is a mojito and mine is the biggest margarita known to man.
Sometimes, I like to trick myself into studying by polishing my nails at the same time. I forget the name of the color, but it’s a very light pastel lavender by OPI and it goes on incredibly well and really has staying power.
My friend/former roommate/current roommate’s girlfriend Erin and I like to eat Nutella straight out of the jars. Cheers!
And last but not least, my little rodent sunshine, Ewan, all cozied up in a hammock I made for him.
I want to see some other people’s Instagrams! Please comment with your username so I can follow you. Mine is “nicetobelieve”!
Safe & sexy,
