The convention takes place March 4th-5th and features speakers like my dear friend and Eroticon roommate Sarah from Formidable Femme, Girl on the Net, Ruby Goodnight, Myles Jackman, and Emmeline Peaches, among many others.
Hold up… What’s Eroticon?
In their own words, the Eroticon organizers describe it as “a weekend of learning, socialising and fun for sex bloggers, erotica writers and erotic creatives.” It’s full of sessions both playful and educational, and while I expect it’ll be pretty different from other popular conferences, I’m very excited to finally experience it for myself!
While Eroticon has been happening since 2012, this year, it’s been put together by 3 new organizers: Molly Moore, Michael Knight, and Girl on the Net. They’re committed to maintaining Eroticon’s good reputation while also striving to reach underserved community members and expand the focus of the conference. I have very high hopes, and I’m super excited to see what Eroticon will be like.
Cool. So what are you doing?
As I mentioned, I’m going to be staying with Sarah Brynn Holliday from Formidable Femme. Since we’re sex bloggers and Twittresses Extraordinaire, we’ll be using the hashtag #SarahsAbroad1 on Twitter and Instagram to document our adventures before, during, and post-Eroticon. We currently have plans to see Babes ‘n Horny’s studio space, visit Sh! Women’s Store, see all of the typical tourist sights, and practice our rope skills with DJFet. If you see two babes walking around in all black and the little one is waving her arms around wildly, that’s probably us. Come say hi!
How are you getting there?
Well, first I have to take a car service to the airport… Oh, that’s not what you meant!
Thanks to SheVibe, who sponsored my conference ticket, I’ll get to experience my first conference outside of the US in one of my favorite cities. Thanks to my readers (ie: you!), I was able to fund my hotel and airfare with a combination of affiliate programs and sponsored posts2, meaning that what comes in goes back into improving this blog and its peripheral content. My goal this year is to have the blog pay for as much of my blog-related travel as possible, like a little self-sustaining internet organism.
Are you doing the pre-con Meet & Greet?
Yeah! In fact, that’s the next thing on my agenda. The physical Meet & Greet takes place on Friday night, but many Eroticon attendees are taking part in the Virtual Meet & Greet. Speaking of which…
Name (and Twitter Handle)
I’m Sarah Jane, and you can call me either Sarah or Sarah Jane. Whatever. It’s good. I use she/her or they/them. My Twitter handle is @marvydarling.
What are you hoping to get out of Eroticon 2017?
This is so hard for me to answer, but I’ll try. I’m really hoping to make new connections, rev up some of the energy that I feel forming around blogging and writing, and enjoy some semi-solo travel. I also want to learn new things and strengthen some of the friendships that I’ve made both online and at conferences past.
This years schedule at Eroticon is pretty full on but which 4 sessions do you already have marked down as ones you want to attend?
- Sex Blogging as Feminism and Social Justice with Sarah Brynn Holliday
- Pitching 101 with Girl on the Net
- Plotting the Erotic Story with Ashley Lister
- Conflict Resolution in the “Call Out” Era with Ruby Goodnight
Tell us one thing about yourself that not many people know?
I had two of my toes removed when I was 19. (No, I did not get to keep them.) Technically, it wasn’t medically necessary, so it might count as a cosmetic surgery.
If you made the papers, what would the headline be?
Sex Bloggers Kicks Off International Incident After Being Forced to Hand Over Her Burrito at Airport Security
If you could have one skill for free (I.e. without practice/time/effort) what would it be?
It would be really handy if I could just magically be fluent in German. Like, that would make my life infinitely easier. But if I were to choose a more fun or whimsical skill, it would be hair cutting, coloring, and styling, if I can just lump all of those together.
Complete the sentence: I love it when…
you call me Big Poppa. I get to eat something delicious and I don’t have to clean up afterwards.
Will you be at Eroticon this year? Hoping to go next year? Let me know!
